Curley is a thin young man who compensates his small size by picking on the ‘big guys’ to make himself look bigger than he actually is. He may even be jealous of the ‘big guys’ and hide that fact by picking fights with him. If he wins, he would be respected by others; if he loses, others would pity him because of his unfair disadvantage. Curley ‘like the boss , wore high heeled boots’ (pg 46).
