File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

If you want to transfer files from one computer to another you can, of course, attach the file to an email and send it as a file attachment. This method is slow and as storage on an ISP's server or other internet server is limited, which means the file transfer will be rejected.

FTP is used to transmit any type of file: computer programs, text files, graphics, etc., by a process which bunches the data into packages.
