Fetch-Decode-Execute Cycle

In the fetch cycle, instructions and data are transferred from the RAM to the CPU.

1.    The control unit sets up the program counter to 0. Before it can be used, it is transferred to the memory address register.

2.    The control unit uses the address bus to send signals to this memory location and the contents are transferred to the memory data register (MDR) along the data bus.
