State Proprietary Factories

• Provided manufacturing essential for national security
• Armaments, sailcloth, arms, gunfounding factories
• State run factories with peasant workers who were attached to a factory for life
• Also had prisoners of war, beggars, criminals and orphans as workers
• Raw Materials: wool obtained instead of taxes
• Factories had relatively low qualities of work

Estate Factories

• Developed in 18th Century by nobles on their estate
• Nobles with no factories sold or hired work…
