Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum 

Description: Membrane form a series of tubes (called cisternae) in the cytoplasm of cells. Appears rough due to ribosomes attatched to membranes.

Function: Synthesis and transport of proteins through cytoplasm.


Description: Small organelles not surrounded by a membrane. Consists of a large and small subunit.

Function: Protein synthesis - Ribosomes assemble protein
