Changes in Concentration

General Principle

If the ratio of [PRODUCTS] / [REACTANTS] is less than Kc, then [PRODUCTS] must increase and [REACTANTS] must decrease until Kc is restored.

If the ratio of [PRODUCTS] / [REACTANTS] is more than Kc, then [PRODUCTS] must decrease and [REACTANTS] must increase until Kc is restored.

  • The value of Kc is unaffected by changes in concentration and remains unchanged at a constatnt temperature.
  • The system is no longer in equilibruim.

  • The value of Kc is unaffected by changes in concentration and remains unchanged at a constant temperature.
  • The system is no longer in equilibrium.
  • [PRODUCTS] must increase and [REACTANTS] msut decrease until Kc is restored.

3. If the [REACTANTS] increases...

  • The value of Kc is unaffected by changes in concentration and remains unchanged at a constant temperature.
  • The system is no longer in equilibrium.
  • [PRODUCTS] must increase and [REACTANTS] must decrease until Kc is restored.

4. If the [REACTANTS] decreases...
