  • Its a frontier
  • An original destination - not many people have been.
  • Won't always be there

Why is tourism increasing?:

  • Might not be there in 50 years.
  • Improvements in transport (you can go and see the ice caps then come back to a central heated boat.)
  • More disposable income.

ARTIC TREATY: A law that enforces the conduct of tour operators in the Antarctic. 

NOTHING can be chucked overboard.

An officer is on board every ship to make sure the rules are upheld.

If you break the rules it can result in a revoked licenses or huge fines

There are never usually any problems as the only people who go are
