Extraneous Variables 

These are also known as CONTROL VARIABLES. They are other variables that might influence the outcome of the study. If these variables are not controlled they will become confounding variables. This means our study is NOT valid, because we cannot conclude that our results are due to the relationship of the IV and DV.
