Schizophrenia runs in families, having 1 parent with schiz leads to a 1 in 5 chance,whereas having 2 parents leads to a 1 in 3 chance of the child also developig the disorder.  Another way to look at if genetics is a factoris to look at the genetic resemblance between identical and non-identical twins.  Schiz is measured in concordance rates.  This was used in twin studies, Monozygotic (mz) twins share 100% of their DNA, wheras Dizygotic (dz) twins share 50% of their DNA. Higher concordance in MZ  nature, as they are ore likely to display the same characteristics.
