Evolutionary explanation of aggression

?

Aggression serves an important function in terms of both individual survival and reproductive success.

Aggression can be used to establish dominance in statue or to gain better resources.

Being in a group gives the individual a greater chance of survival and also the chance to show off their bravery and attract a mate.

It is also aimed at gaining or defending resources.

Key terms

Jealousy - a form of aggression to deter a partner's infidelity. Purpose is to ensure exclusivity to our mate. A woman can be certain that she is the parent, men do never fully know if their partner has been faithful.

Cuckoldry - the reproductive cost that might be inflicted on a man as a result of his partner's infidelity. For men, jealously (and aggression) serves to prevent this from happening.

Sexual jealously has evolved in men in order to prevent their woman from cheatingon them. For woman, raising a child is costly, so aggressive behaviour is designed to prevent one's partner from committing his resources to another woman and/or children.

Infidelity can be seen as an evolutionary adaptive strategy. For a man, the more partners, the more offspring, therefore more genes survive.  Woman can improv e the quality of her offspring by having many sexual partners…
