Evaluation of the Levels of Processing (LOP) Approach

• MANDLER= asked participants to sort 52 words out into 7 piles, based on any system of categories. each participant was required to repeat until the sort was 95% consistent. Recall was the best for those who had more categories tahn those who had fewer piles. This suggests that the act of organising info makes it memorable without conscious effort or rehearsal.
