Evaluation of brain studying techniques

fMRI

• Strength: high spatial resolution - produces a clear picture of how brain activity is localised
• Strength: does not rely on the use of radiation and so is virtually risk-free
• Weakness: expensive
• Weakness: poor temporal resolution - there is a lag of around 5 seconds between the data shown and brain activity
• Weakness: cannot hone in on individual neurons and so it can be difficult to know exactly what brain activity is being shown

EEG

• Strength: extremely high temporal resolution
• Strength: has helped diagnose epilepsy, a disorder characterised by random…
