What is Euthanasia?
It is killing someone painlessly to ease their suffering. It is sometimes called a mercy killing.
Kinds of Euthansia
Voluntary - The person is suffering and has asked to be killed
Non-Voluntary - The person can't give their consent because e.g. they are in a coma. You kill them because they are suffering.
Involuntary - The killing of someone against their will for a social or medical justification. For example, the Nazis killed disabled people because they were of no 'use'.
The Law
In the UK, euthansia is agains the law but doctors are allowed to:
- Give a powerful painkiller to a terminally ill patient even if they die sooner as a result
- Withdraw medical treatment if a patient is…
