Equity theory evaluation

RTS:Surveyed 118 recently married couples (aged between 16 - 45) - measuring the equity with two self-esteem scales. Found that couples who considered their relationship equitable were also more satisfied than those who reported themselves as underbenfitting or overbenefitting, so supporting the predictions of equity theory.

RTC:Berg and McQuinn, conducted a longitudinal study on 38 dating couples. They didn’t find any increase in equity over time but discovered that a high level of self-disclosure & perceived equity at the beginning of the relationships was an indicator that the couple would stay together & low equity, in the beginning, indicating the couple was likely to break up.
