The NAACP were involved in a number of cases to improve education for black people.
In 1954, 20 states had segregated schools.
The first case was the Brown vs Topeka in 1954:
- Topeka, Kansas
- Linda Brown (7yrs old)
- Had to walk 20 blocks on a dangerous trek to go to intergregated school
- Even thought there was a school 1 block away (segregated)
- Took the Board of Education to court

- "colour blind"
- "with all deliberate speed"
