Enzymes in Medicine

• Testing for Sugar - diabetes blood glucose levels in blood and urine can sometimes be too high. Normal = 4-8mmol/1. REAGENT STICK - makes use of enzymes for diabetics to keep an eye on their glucose levels. 
• Lactose intolerance = if your body cant make lactase, you cant digest lactose in your gut. This leads to diarrhoea and wind. You can use enzymes to make lactose-free food. Beads can be made containing immobilised lactase enzymes. The enzymes digests the lactose into glucose and galactose:

LACTOSE ---lactase--> GLUCOSE + GALACTOSE
