Medieval 

  • gleemen (professional musicians) travelled around and performed for food and money
  • most songs would've been religious and pure 
  • singing - simple style of chanting
  • folksongs - sung by people at work, mothers to their children and soldiers going into battle
  • whistles, recorders, harps, drums, bells

Early Modern

  • Great Halls - court minstrels would perform at banquets
  • jesters and fools - entertainment for the royal court and king/queen
  • Will Sommers (Henry VII's jester) - could
