Lord of the flies

A plan crashes on a desert island and the only survivours, a group od school boys, assemble on the beach and wait to be rescued. By the day they inhabit a land of bright fantastic birds and dark blue seas, but at night their dreams are haunted by the image of a terrifying beast. As the boys' delicate sense of order fades, so their childish dreams are transformed into something more primitive and their behaviour starts to take on murderous, savage significance. 

Characters: 

Piggy, Ralph, Simon, Jack, Samneric (twins), Roger, Beast. 

Chapter 1: 

Clothing - A motif (repeated symbol of civilisation. 

"Might make a boxer" - Ralph - childish/nieve. 

strength - physical strength 

resilence, inteligence. 

protected by the rules. 

"Proclaimed no devil" - Ralph, expecting him to be a good character. 

"Fair" - light coloured 

Innocencnt 

Just 

Piggy - just the name given. 

Insulting name - cant stand up for himself. 

Highlights he is overweight. 

He is dismissed by society. 

The island is surrounded by a semantic field of illusion "enchantment, mirage" etc...

The island only appears to be a good thing - foreshadowing. 

Jack "I should be cheif I... ca sing a C sharp" 

He cares only for himself. 

Doesn't realise that is irelevant. 

Suggests he would be a tereible leader. 

The people who lead aren't always the ones who should. 

"Toy of voting" - Metaphor 

Voting is jusr a bit of fn. 

Micricosm (the island is a mini version of the world)
