1400s
- The Great Vowel Shift begins
- Caxton's printer press was created. He had to decide which dialect would be used in his printing and he chose East Midlands, which became the forerunner of Standard English.
1500s
- Elizabethan age of exploration - SE started moving into Wales, Ireland and Scotland.
- Renaissance era
- Richard Mulcaster's 'elementaire' - came up with the idea of adding the magic e onto the end of words to create new meanings
