- It is based on another small section of the extract, different to the section used for Q1

- This question tests your ability to identify and analyse the writer's use of language

- For full marks, your answer must be perceptive - writing points that others don't think of!

- When looking at specific words, try to identify the class of the word (e.g. nouns, verbs, etc.)

- What is the effect of words and phrases on the reader?

- Don't just identify the techniques, but look deeper into them - why have they been used?

- Remember the types of sentences: Simple, Compound, Complex, Compound-Complex
