Exothermic and Endothermic Reactions
Chemical reactions either give out or take in energy. So chemical reactions cause a temperature change.
- Exothermic reactions release energy to the surroundings and cause a temperature rise.
- Endothermic reactions absorb energy from the surroundings and cause a temperature drop.
The energy given out by an exothermic chemical reactions can be used to:
- heat things
- produce electricity
- make sound
- make light
Energy is measured in joules (J) or kilojoules (kJ).
Temperature is measured in degrees Celsius.

A calorimeter can be used to compare…
