We use the following systems for major elections:

"First Past the Post" for general elections and local council elections. This means each voter will cast one vote and the winner is the candidate with most votes, irrespective of the number received. He or she will take the seat for that constituency, and the others will get nothing.
The "Additional Member System" is used for elections to the Welsh Assembly and to the Scottish Parliament.
