Attitudes:

Jenner, following Hunters advice, tested the connection between cowpox and small pox in experiments, collecting evidence carefully as proof that catching cowpox really did protect people against smallpox.

In 1802 and 1807, Parliament gave Jenner £30,000 to develop his work on vaccination. In 1852 vaccination was made compulsory in Britain.
