- 1944 education act- also known as the Butler act and this introudced the tripartite system which included; grammar schools, secondary moderns and technical schools
- 1962 education act- obligation for parents to make sure children received an education
- 1965- widespread introduction of comprehensive schools
- 1970 education act- children with disabilities became the responsibility of LEAs(local education authorities) rather than the health system.
- 1971 education act- abolished free milk for 7-11 year olds -'thatcher the milk snatcher'
- 1976 act- admission to state schools should be non selective
- 1981 education act- integrated children with special needs into mainstream schools and gave parents more rights.
1988 education reform act
- brought in by secretary of state Kenny Baker - radical reform by new right government under Thatcher.
- led to marketisation of secondary education and introduced ; the national curriculum, SATS, league tables…
