What is tuberculosis?

It is a contageous disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacteriumtuberculosis. in the nineteenth and twentieth century the poverty and cramped living conditions promoted rapid spread of disease and 1 in 4 people died of TB. was known as the white plague or consumption. Today it is estimated that nearly 2 billion people are infected, around 2 mil die from it each year. Most of those infected are healthy. Respitoryu or pulmonary TB is the most common, effecting the lungs and being highly contageous. Improved living conditions and the development of antibiotics have seen a decline in the numberes of TB cases.  Although in the UK TB is quite rare
