Factory Workers in Nazi Germany

Many factory workers supported left wing parties and the trade unions and this was problematic for the Nazis. Hitler needed the factory workers to help Germany rearm and prepare for war - he didn't to control them but not alienate them too much. He therefore used a 'sticks and carrots' policy

How were factory workers deprived of their political rights in Nazi Germany? How were they controlled?

The sticks were:

  • Trade unions were banned
  • Wages were kept low
  • Everyone had to join a Nazi run organisation called the German Labour Front which was dominated by the bosses
  • Strikes were banned
  • Longer hours were introduced
  • In 1938, conscription was introduced…
