therapy for biological approach

DRUGS AND ECT

  • anti-depressants e.g. MAOI's - improve your mood by increasing availability of neurotransmitters such as serotonin. They block the enzyme that breaks down serotonin
  • anti-psychotics e.g phenothiazines - they sedate and alleviate symptons (hallucinations) of the person suffering from disorders such as schiz. work by blocking the D2 receptor for dopamine

  • time -  they are quick and easy to use (either 2 weeks or immediately)
  • accapteable 
  • effective

  • side effects - worse than original symptons to disorder
