• 1577-80 Francis Drake sailed the world. 2nd circumnavigation by and Eng Sailor. 
• He didn't aim to do this when he set out from Plymouth in 1577. His aim then was to plunder Spanish Ships and raid their colonies. It seems he was sent by Queen E to explore the coast of S.America looking for trade and colonisation oppurtunities.
• He did this successfully and raided s.ships returning to Eng with an estimated £500,000,000 worht of treasure!! 
• Didn't intend to do it.. he had to take a different route home once…
