personal documents= letters diaries, memoirs and autobiographies, photographs

public documents= reports from charities and businesses

INTERPRETIVISTS- used documents as they seek to discover meanings that underlie our actions. Documents meet their requirement that data should be qualitative and allow the researcher to explore meanings people attach to events
