DNA and RNA

DNA:

DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is an important information carrying molecule, the information it stores is the genetic information which holds the code for making proteins. In eukaryotic cells, DNA is organised into proteins.

The DNA molecule is a double helix structure made of two polynucleotide strands held together by hydrogen bonds. DNA molecule are made of monomers called nucleotides bonded together by a condensation reaction, which forms a phosphodiester bond to create a polymer called a polynucleotide which is often referred to as a chain or strand.

One nucleotide contains a phosphate group, a deoxyribose sugar and a base. Bases in DNA are adenine, thymine, cytosine and guamine.

DNA strands have specific complementry base pairing.
