Culture and Society in the UK

Significant international movement of people has created uneven demographic and cultural patterns. London is highly diverse with a mix of British, Indian, African, Chinese and Caribbean cultures. This has become about because of international migration flows from former colonies. Especially around the 1990s and 200s because of the EU free movement of people agreement, which encouraged many EU citizens to move to the UK. eg. 

The main 'gatekeeper' player is the government who control and allow such flows. They can further encourage the acceptance of migrants by nvesting in integration programmes. eg. Printing flyers in multiple languages and having specific cultural facilities available. 

Some international migrants choose to live in rural areas. This may be due to background such as living in a villge environment or employment opportunities in the agrilcultural sector. This could create social challenges because majority of migrants choose to move to urban regions for work than the rural areas.

Diversity

For many decades there was a clear movement of North-to-South in London and now there is a much more complex pattern of internal migration. Reasons for net migration out of London include high cost of housing.

Recent immigration has had two main phases :

1. Post war; British Nationality Act (1948) : commonwealth citizens were given free access to the UK. Large number of migration occured in Indian Subcontinent and
