Disruption of Attachment
Seperation: when a child is away from an attached caregiver. Term is used when away from caregiver for a relatively short time, just hours or days
Deprivation: the loss of the mother attachment, a long term, permanent loss is implied
Bowlbys Maternal Deprivation Theory
Bowlby argued that long term deprivation from an attachment figure could be harmful. Deprivation from the main career during the critical period will have harmful effects on childs emotuional, social, physical and intellectual development.
