Many western cultures live in urban settings. We have easy geographical and social mobility. This means that we interact with large numbers of people daily. This means that we have a larger pool of potential relationships. Non-western cultures have less geographical and social mobility and therefore have less choice in who they interact with. Non-voluntary marriages seem to work well. The divorce rates are low and half of them report that they have fallen in love with each other. No differences in marital satisfaction were found when compared to individuals in non-arranged marriages. However, in recent times there has been an increase in love matches.
