  • The authoritarian personality is a personality type where a person has a strict adherence to conventional values and a belief of absolute obedience. 
  • This is measured on the F scale, which asks people questions based on obedience and respect for authority. 
  • Adorno et al found that people who scored highly on the F scale where raised by parents with authoritarian parenting styles, which clearly lead to an emphesis on obedience for the child (continuity hypothesis). 
  • This shows that the F scale is relevent, and that obedience as a child can lead to obedience as an adult, therefore suggesting authoritarian personality.
