The Medical Model

• Adopted by Medical Professionals.

This Model sees disabled people as victims of impairments which stop them from leading a full life. Critics of this model believe that it patronises disabled people as deserving of pity and charity and encourages non-disabled people to be blind to other aspects of their identity.

The Social Model

This Model notes how, to many disabled people, the disability overtakes every form of interaction between them and non-disabled people.
