Diffusion is the passive net movement of particles from a region of high concentration to an area of low concentration. It will continue until there is a concentration equilibrium between the two areas.
Simple diffusion: Diffusion in the absence of a barrier. (no barrier present)
Factors affecting the rate:
- Temperature- higher temp the particles will have more kinetic energy, will diffuse faster.
- Concentration difference- the greater the difference between the two areas the faster the particles will move.
Diffusion accross a mambrane:
- Involves particles moving across a permeable membrane.
