One way in which different terrorist groups have similar motives is that both the IRA and the PLO were in dispute over land. For example, the PLO was set up to destroy the state of Israel and re-establish Palestine as the home of the Palestinan Arabs. Similarly with the IRA, they wanted to rejoin Northern and Southern Ireland and remove British troops from Northern Ireland, who were trying to make Ireland into a mainly protestant country.
