Schizophrenia is a serious mental disorder suffered by about 1% of the world's population. It is more commonly diagnosed in men than women and in working-class people than middle-class people

Classification of schizophrenia
DSM-5

  • Requires symptoms of schizophrenia to be evidenced for at least 1 month
  • Symptoms must produce a deterioration in functions at work, in social relations and in self-care
  • No subtypes

ICD-10

  • Requires symptoms to be evident
