Type One:

• Cause -
  • immune system attacks beta cells so insulin is unable to be released
  • after eating, blood glucose levels rise and stay high, this is called hyperglycaemia
  • kidneys are unable to reabsorb all glucose so some is excreted through urine
  • cause is unknown
  • some people may have a genetic predeposition to type one diabetes
  • thought it may be triggered by a viral infection
• Treatment - 
  • regular insulin injections are required throughout the day
  • some people use an insulin pump to deliver the insulin instead
