DIABETES

?

DIABETES: a disease in which the body’s ability to produce or respond to the hormone insulin is impaired, resulting in abnormal metabolism of carbohydrates and elevated levels of glucose in the blood.

Causes for TYPE 1 diabetes:

  • unknown
  • the bodies own immune system mistakenly destroys the insulin, producing cells in the pancreas.

Causes for TYPE 2 Diabetes:

  • genetics and lifestyle e.g. weight
  • the pancreas us a large gland behind the stomach that produces the hormone insulin. insulin moves the glucose from your blood into your cells, where it's converted into energy.

Major SYMPTOMS for TYPE 1:

  • develop within a few weeks
  • feeling thirsty
  • urinating more frequent than usual
  • feeling tired more frequently
  • itchiness around the genital area
  • blurred vision
  • vomiting or heavy breathing
  • cut or grazes heal slowly

Major SYMPTOMS for Type 2:

  • not always obvious and diagnosed over a routine check-up so the symptoms develop over the years.
  • often have it without realising.
  • same as type 1 symptoms.
