Devolution and further debates on the constitution

?

Devolution

  • Scotland Act 2016 means more and more power being devolved to Scotland (taxation)
  • However legislative power remains with Westminster, for example Scotland forced to leave EU despite voting against it
  • Government of Wales act 3014, gave power to wales to borrow money and housing
  • However, Westminster still delegates power over wales, for examle Plaid Cymru sit in Parliament and try to make laws there
  • 1998 belfast agreement means northern ireland gets its own assembly, clear devolution
  • However, since 2016 westminster has been running northern ireland as assembly cant get a majority
  • English Votes for English Laws means only English MPs
