Measures of development have disadvantages
1) Economic measures can be inaccurate for countries where trade is informal ( not taxed). They're also affected by exchange rate changes.
2) The measures can be misleading when used on their own because they're averages- they dont show up elite groups in the population with variations within the country. For example, if you looked at the GNI of Iran it might seem quite developed ( because the GNI is quite high), but in reality there are some really wealthy people and some poor people.
3) They also shouldn't be used on their own because as a country develops, some aspects develop before others. So it might seem that a country's more devloped than it actually is.
