Reverberation has been used to enhance music since the birth of recording. Describe the different techniques and technologies that have been used to apply reverberation to recordings from the 1920s to today. 

The earliest recordings of music in the 1920s simply used large rooms for reverb. Large orchestras and jazz bands would often play in large rooms and halls in order to enhance the sound of the recording. The ambience of the room would be captured using ambient microphone techniques. A loudspeaker would be placed at one end of the room and an omnidirectional microphone at the other end. The height and angle of the microphone would affect the amount of reverb in different ways. 

By the 1950s, plate reverb started to develop and the EMT 140 reverb unit was released. Plate reverb units consisted of a large metal sheet and the audio input would come through two transducers on the plate. The…
