Demography refers to the make-up of Society and the population, for example by age group or ethnicity.

Governments need to be able to cater for the population and the country and allocate resources appropriately so they need accurate information about the changes in population = census every 10 years (since 1801) which everyone is legally required to complete. Collects Demographic Data.
