Delirium tremens

After alcohol withdrawal

Severe agitated confusion, hyperadrenergic state where patients may experience:

• hallucinations
• confusion
• delusions
• severe agitation
• generalised tonic-clonic seizures

Symptoms occur after 8hrs after withdrawal, peak at 2 days with recovery on day 5.

Mortality of 35% if untreated.

Mgmt:

• ABCDE
• treat hypoglycaemia
