Holland presents a completely different approach to defining a miracle, arguing that a miracle need neither involve breaking the laws of nature, nor an intervention by God
- A miracle can only be spoken about against a religious background where the miracle is taken as a sign
- A miracle can be defined as 'a remarkable and beneficial coincidence that is interpreted in a religious way' - Holland refers to this as a 'contingency miracle'
