Economic Reform of 1780 

• 1780, plan limited patronage of monarch 
• Stopped king handing out positions 
• Stopped ceremonial positions
• However King still allowed some patronage after 1800
• Also still very rich, could use money to support MPs

Decline in power over Commons 

• Bedchamber Crisis of 1849, Victoria had to accept tory ladies in waiting
• Reform acts of 1832, 1867, 1884, 1918 and 1928 all extended electorate
• Decline in rotten boroughs after reform act of 1832
