Death and the Moon 


Moon = metaphor for the person who died 

The poem is dedicated to a woman - Duffy's aim is to relate to women 


stanza 1 = present tense 

stanza 2 = past tense (remembering the funeral service) 

stanza 3 = back to present - nothing has changed

tone = melancholic, wistful and perhaps regretful 


paradox between the moon (the person who has died) is "unreachable" and "unseeable" yet "If i stood on the tip of my toes and stretched, I could touch the edge of
