By debreifing given opportuning to withdraw data.

BUT may not be able to return to original state- damage already done

E.g. Milgram: some people suffered emotional problems after the study

Presumptive Consent...

Way to deal with consent... ask people similar to participants if they would agree

PROBLEM: aren't gainng consent from real participants who might have a different opinion 

Ethical Committees...

Every institution where research takes place, EC must approve of study before it begins
