Darwin and Wallace 

darwin cam eup with the theory of evolution by natural selection, he spent 5 yrs on a voyage studying plants and animals, he noticed that there was a variation in members of the same species and that those with characteristics most suited to their environment were more liekly to survive 

he also noticed that the characteristics can be passed on to an offspring 

and wallace contributed too.......

alfred russel wallace was a scientists working at the same time as darwin 

he also came up with the idea of natural selction and worked with darwin on it
